Hey Reader, Happy Wednesday 👋 I landed a new client this week and I’m ridiculously excited about it. Not because she hired me to write emails. Not because she hired me to work on her website. But because she hired me to write her "About page." I know. Try to contain your excitement. The About page is about as sexy as a dental cleaning. Most business owners treat it like a chore. They throw up a headshot, list their credentials, mention the family dog, and call it a day. Big mistake. Because when someone lands on your website, they’re asking themselves one question: “Can I trust this person?” And where do they go to find out? Your About page. It’s the online equivalent of meeting someone at a party. Before people buy from you, hire you, or hand over their credit card, they want to know who’s standing on the other side of the screen. The problem? Most About pages read like a résumé that got drunk and wandered onto the internet. “I have 17 certifications.” “I started my company in 2012.” “I’m passionate about helping people.” Cool. But why should I care? A great About page does six things: Step 1: Tell a Story 📖 Facts are forgettable. Stories aren’t. Nobody remembers where you went to college. They remember the moment you nearly quit, failed spectacularly, or discovered the thing that changed everything. Step 2: Emotional Connection 😭 People don’t buy because they understand. They buy because they feel understood. When your reader says, “Oh my God, that’s exactly me,” you’ve got their attention. Step 3: Make It About Them 🙋♀️ This sounds backward, but your About page isn’t really about you. It’s about helping your reader see themselves in your story. You’re simply the guide who shows them what’s possible. Step 4: Use Action Words 💥 Strong writing has movement. You didn’t “work with clients.” You helped them grow. You didn’t “create a business.” You built one. See the difference? Step 5: Keep It Short & Sweet 🍭 Nobody pours a glass of wine, settles into a comfy chair, and says, “Honey, I’m going to spend the evening reading About pages.” Get to the point. Leave them wanting more. Step 6: The Big Finale – Call to Action! 🎉 This is where most business owners completely drop the ball. They finish their About page with: “Thanks for visiting my website.” And then… Nothing. Tell people where to go.
Because confused people don’t buy. They leave. Now, if writing your About page feels about as appealing as assembling IKEA furniture without instructions, I can help.
